What is Renegades Softball?

Lake Oswego Renegades is the competitive brand of Lake Oswego Girls Softball. This program is designed for those girls who desire and are ready for a little bit more than the Rec program.

Renegades Softball begins at the 10u age level and continues through 14u. Lake Oswego typically has 4-6 competitive Renegade teams made up of girls from all over Lake Oswego. This is primarily a town program to the extent we have participation, and is not separated by north side / south side.

Renegades teams are formed during late summer tryouts - typically held at the end of July or early August. Teams are selected based on tryouts and at the discretion of the Board elected Head Coaches. Each age group typically has 1-2 teams, usually formulated based on ability and with an “A” team and a “B” team based on talent levels. Playing time and position is also at the discretion of the Head Coach.

A typical Renegades season begins with a short 5-6 week Fall Ball season running early September through mid-October. Teams are likely to reconvene for indoor training sessions 1-2 times per week during January & February for conditioning and ongoing skill building. This is encouraged activity, but not required.

The Spring season officially begins early March as the weather turns. Renegades teams typically practice 2x per week in season and primarily play weekend tournaments at the discretion of the Head Coach. Tournament schedules vary by team, but may include between 6-10 tournaments between March - July 4th weekend which is usually the State tournament and culmination of the season.

Renegades Softball definitely requires a higher level of commitment than Rec softball. It provides a great opportunity for Lake Oswego girls to develop a deeper level of understanding of the game, and the skills required to play the game at a higher level.

Fee’s for the year typically run between $600 - $1,000 which includes Fall Ball, any off season trainings, Spring Season tournaments, uniforms, and league fees which covers insurance, field usage, equipment, and more.

The following competitive (Renegades) fastpitch softball programs are available for girls ages 5-15:

SPRING SOFTBALL

10U B or C - Competitive (Renegades)

Placement on a competitive team is based on the number of registrants and the player evaluation held in August. In addition, the level of interest and time commitment of the players, parents and coaches is also largely considered in this decision. 10U B/C teams will decide as a team how they will participate in the season as well as practice schedules. Teams are "tournament only" teams and do not play in a league. Tournaments are held on weekends throughout the state or even the Northwest. Two tournaments are paid for by the Lake Oswego Girls Softball.

FALL SOFTBALL

Lake Oswego Softball softball teams often play "fall ball." Games are double headers played on Sundays starting in September 2017. Fall ball is an excellent opportunity to play up a level in order to prepare for the next spring season. While fall ball is competitive the emphasis is always on having fun. There are typically 2 practices per week scheduled around competing sports such as soccer.
